Not only do you have to make certain that you will get the complete training required to be successful in your new profession, but also that the school is reputable and well regarded. Others might be attracted to the school that has the lowest tuition. Of course the location and cost of the training are critical considerations when assessing vocational school options, but they should not be the sole ones. Added variables including accreditation and the reputation of the schools are important as well. So prior to beginning your evaluations and comparing trade schools, you will need to know what questions you should be asking in order to get the information to make a final choice. We will review a few of those questions shortly in this article. But to start with, let’s talk about some of the vocation options that are offered including the availability of online schools.

Trade Schools Online

Eskridge KS student attending online vocational programTrade Schools online have become more attractive with Eskridge KS students and a growing number of accredited programs are becoming available. Even though learning online is a very convenient and accessible way to earn a degree or certificate, it may not be the best option for all trades or vocations. For instance, learning to drive a tractor trailer is not something that you can do online, nor is learning how to weld. These are skills that have to be mastered through hands on training and by doing it, not by studying or watching videos. But certain components of the training can be suitable for online learning, such as studying driving and safety guidelines for trucking schools or studying metallurgy or how to read blueprints for welder schools. A number of programs will blend online instruction with on campus practical training, for example for electrician or welding schools. So it is very important to determine before enrolling in an online school for any vocation if there is a suitable amount of practical training devoted to the curriculum. One means to help ensure that a vocational school program is both suitable for online education and provides in-depth practical training is to verify that it’s accredited by a nationally acknowledged accrediting organization (more on accreditation later). For those vocations that are appropriate for online training, it can be a practical way for individuals with limited time to learn a new vocation.

Concerns to Ask Trade School Programs

Questions to ask Eskridge KS trade schoolsOnce you have decided on the trade and type of certificate or degree that you wish to attain, either on campus or online, you can start to limit your selection of schools. As you are certainly aware, there are many technical schools in the  Eskridge KS area and across the USA to choose from. That’s why it is extremely important to have a checklist of relevant qualifications when making school assessments. As earlier stated in our opening paragraph, tuition and location will probably be the first two factors you will consider. Following are several additional ones that you will want to explore before enrolling in your school of choice.

Accredited.  A large number of Eskridge KS area trade schools have earned either a regional or a national accreditation. They may attain Institutional Accreditation, which focuses on the school’s programs overall, or Programmatic Accreditation, which relates to a specific program, for example HVAC technology. Make certain that the program and school are accredited by a U.S. Department of Education approved accrediting organization, for example the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology. Along with helping ensure that you acquire an excellent education, it can assist in securing financial aid or student loans, which are often unavailable for non-accredited programs. Furthermore, a number of states mandate that the  training program be accredited for it to be approved for licensing where applicable.

How Long in Operation? One clue to help determine the quality of a trade school near Eskridge KS is how long it has been in business. A negatively rated or a fly by night school usually will not be in business very long, so longevity is a big plus. On the other hand, even the best of schools had to begin from their first day of training, so use it as one of several qualifiers.

Completion Rates.  Ask the vocational schools you are looking at what their completion rates are. The completion rate is the percentage of students who enroll in and complete the course. A lower completion rate might indicate that students were unhappy with the program and dropped out. It may also mean that the teachers were not qualified to train the students. It’s similarly important that the schools have high job placement rates. Older and/or more reputable schools may have a more extensive list of alumni, which may mean more contacts for the school to employ for their apprenticeship and job placement programs. A high job placement rate can not only validate that the school has a good reputation within the trade, but also that it has the network of contacts to help graduates acquire apprenticeships or jobs in the Eskridge KS area.

Apprenticeship Programs.  Most technical programs are taught along with an internship or an apprenticeship program. Those participating trade and vocational schools will help place you in an apprenticeship program within their network of contractors or trade unions. Ask if the schools you are considering have referring relationships with Eskridge KS area companies in the field. An apprenticeship not only provides a rewarding experience by furnishing hands-on training, but it also provides employment opportunities and helps to form relationships in the area professional community.

Modern Facilities.  Make sure that the campus facilities and the tools that you will be instructed on are state-of-the-art and what you will be working with on the job. If you are currently in an internship or an apprenticeship, talk to the technician you are working under concerning what you should be looking for. Otherwise, ask a local Eskridge KS company if they can provide some suggestions. Additionally bear in mind that unless you are willing to move, the school must be within driving distance of your home. Take note that if you decide to attend an out-of-state school, in addition to moving costs there may be higher tuition fees compared to in-state residents.

Smaller Classes.   It’s important that you get as much individualized training as possible, which can be challenging in larger classes. Ask if you can monitor a few of the classes so that you can see how big they are and experience the interaction between teachers and students. Speak to several of the students and get their comments concerning class sizes and instruction. Last, talk with a few of the instructors and learn what their level of experience is in Kansas and what degrees or certifications they have earned.

Flexible Scheduling.  Make sure that the class schedules for the schools you are evaluating are flexible enough to handle your needs. If you are only able to attend classes in the evening or on weekends near Eskridge KS, verify that the programs you are reviewing provide those choices. If you can only attend part-time, make certain that the school you select allows part-time enrollment. Finally, ask what the protocol is to make-up classes should you miss any due to work, illness or family responsibilities.

    Eskridge, Kansas

Eskridge is named for Charles V. Eskridge, an Emporia, Kansas journalist and politician. Colonel Ephraim Sanford, the founder of the town company allowed Eskridge to buy the first lot and have the town named after him. Eskridge served in both houses of the legislature and was elected as lieutenant governor under Governor James M. Harvey in 1869.[9][10]

In 1943, German and Italian prisoners of World War II were brought to Kansas and other Midwest states as a means of solving the labor shortage caused by American men serving in the war effort. Large internment camps were established in Kansas: Camp Concordia, Camp Funston (at Fort Riley), Camp Phillips (at Salina under Fort Riley). Fort Riley established 12 smaller branch camps, including one west of Eskridge at Lake Wabaunsee.[11]

The climate in this area is characterized by hot, humid summers and generally mild to cool winters. According to the Köppen Climate Classification system, Eskridge has a humid subtropical climate, abbreviated "Cfa" on climate maps.[12]
