Trade Schools Online

Wingate NC student attending online vocational programOnline schools have become very popular with Wingate NC students and a growing number of accredited programs are being offered. Although online learning is a readily available and practical way to acquire a degree or certificate, it might not be the ideal option for every vocation or trade. For example, training to drive a semi truck is not something that you can accomplish online, nor is training how to weld. These are skills that need to be mastered through hands on training and by doing it, not by reading about it or watching videos. But certain components of the training can be appropriate for online education, such as studying safety and driving regulations for trucking schools or studying metallurgy or how to read blueprints for welding schools. Many programs will incorporate online instruction with on campus lab work, such as for electrician or welding schools. So it is essential to ask before choosing an online school for any vocation if there is an appropriate amount of hands-on training allocated to the syllabus. One means to help establish est that a vocational school program is both appropriate for online education and delivers comprehensive practical training is to verify that it’s accredited by a nationally recognized accrediting organization (more on accreditation later). For those vocations that are suitable for online training, it can be a practical way for students with limited time to acquire a new vocation.

Concerns to Ask Vocational Schools

Questions to ask Wingate NC trade schoolsAs soon as you have decided on the vocation and type of certificate or degree that you would like to acquire, either online or on campus, you can begin to narrow down your list of schools. As you are certainly aware, there are many vocational schools in the  Wingate NC area and across the USA to pick from. That’s why it is very important to have a checklist of relevant qualifiers when making school comparisons. As earlier stated in our opening paragraph, tuition and location will probably be the first two aspects you will take into consideration. Following are some additional ones that you should investigate before enrolling in your school of choice.

Accredited.  Many Wingate NC area technical programs have attained either a regional or a national accreditation. They may attain Institutional Accreditation, which focuses on the school’s programs overall, or Programmatic Accreditation, which pertains to a specific program, for example HVAC technology. Verify that the school is accredited by a U.S. Department of Education recognized accrediting agency, such as the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology. In addition to helping make certain that you obtain an excellent education, it can assist in acquiring financial aid or student loans, which are often not available for non-accredited schools. Additionally, a number of states require that the  training program be accredited for it to be approved for licensing where applicable.

How Long in Business? One clue to help assess the quality of a trade school near Wingate NC is how long it has been in operation. A negatively rated or a fly by night school typically will not stay in business very long, so longevity is a big plus. However, even the top schools had to begin from their opening day of training, so consider it as one of multiple qualifiers.

Completion Rates.  Ask the tech schools you are reviewing what their completion rates are. The completion rate is the percentage of students who enroll in and complete the program. A low completion rate may indicate that students were unhappy with the program and quit. It may also suggest that the instructors were not qualified to train the students. It’s also essential that the schools have higher job placement rates. Older and/or more reputable schools may have a broader directory of graduates, which can produce more contacts for the school to use for their apprenticeship and job placement programs. A high job placement rate will not only confirm that the school has an excellent reputation within the trade, but also that it has the network of contacts to assist students secure apprenticeships or jobs in the Wingate NC area.

Apprenticeship Programs.  Numerous trade programs are taught along with an apprenticeship or an internship program. Those participating technical and vocational schools will help place you in an apprenticeship program within their network of companies or labor unions. Check if the schools you are reviewing have working partnerships with Wingate NC area companies in the trade. An apprenticeship not only offers a valuable experience by furnishing practical training, but it also supplies employment opportunities and helps to establish relationships in the area professional community.

Modern Facilities.  Make certain that the campus facilities and the equipment that you will be instructed on are up-to-date and what you will be working with on the job. If you are presently in an internship or an apprenticeship, consult with the tech you are working with regarding what you should be looking for. Otherwise, ask a local Wingate NC contracting company if they can give you some suggestions. Also keep in mind that unless you are able to relocate, the school needs to be within driving distance of your residence. Take note that if you decide to enroll in an out-of-state school, besides the added moving costs there might be increased tuition charges compared to in-state residents.

Smaller Classes.   It’s desirable that you get as much individualized instruction as possible, which can be challenging in larger classes. Ask if you can sit in on a couple of the classes so that you can observe how large they are and witness first hand the interaction between students and teachers. Speak with a few of the students and get their comments regarding class sizes and instruction. Finally, speak to a few of the teachers and learn what their level of experience is in North Carolina and what degrees or certifications they have earned.

Flexible Scheduling.  Confirm that the class schedules for the schools you are evaluating are flexible enough to meet your needs. If you are only able to go to classes in the evening or on weekends near Wingate NC, verify that the programs you are looking at provide those options. If you can only attend part-time, make sure that the school you select offers part-time enrollment. Finally, check out what the protocol is to make-up classes should you miss any because of work, sickness or family emergencies.

    Wingate University

Wingate University is an American "Judeo-Christian"[2] university based over three campuses in Wingate, Charlotte, and Hendersonville, North Carolina. It was founded in 1896 and is affiliated with the Baptist State Convention of North Carolina.[3]

In 1896, Wingate University began as 'The Wingate School,' a primary and secondary institution founded by the Baptist Associations of Union County, North Carolina and Chesterfield County, South Carolina in response to a dearth of locally-available public schools. The School took its name from Dr. Washington Manly Wingate, a former president of Wake Forest College, and continued to offer a primary and secondary education until the proliferation of public schools in the early 20th century.

In 1923, The Wingate School began offering the first two years of a baccalaureate education and became Wingate Junior College. The years leading to World War II were difficult for the institution. Though it began receiving financial support from The Baptist State Convention of North Carolina soon after becoming a college, this support was withdrawn during The Great Depression. It was also during this period, in 1932, that the college's administration building was destroyed by fire. The college survived, however, as a result of the work of its administration, faculty, and supporters as well as the post-WWII college enrollment boom. The Baptist State Convention resumed financial support in 1949, and Charles Cannon, a local businessman and philanthropist, began making substantial donations to the college beginning in the 1950s.
