Online Vocational Schools

Santo Domingo Pueblo NM student attending online vocational programSchools available online have become very popular with Santo Domingo Pueblo NM students and a growing number of accredited programs are becoming available. Even though online learning is a readily available and practical way to earn a certificate or degree, it may not be the best option for every vocation or trade. For instance, learning to drive a tractor trailer is not something that you can accomplish online, nor is learning how to weld. These are skills that need to be learned through hands on training and by doing it, not by reading about it or watching videos. But certain components of the training can be appropriate for online education, such as studying safety and driving guidelines for trucking schools or studying metallurgy or how to read blueprints for welder schools. Many programs will incorporate online instruction with on-campus practical training, such as for electrician or welding schools. So it is essential to ask before choosing an online school for any trade if there is an adequate amount of hands-on training allocated to the course of study. One means to help ensure that a vocational school program is both appropriate for online education and delivers in-depth practical training is to check that it’s accredited by a nationally acknowledged accrediting organization (more on accreditation later). For those trades that are suitable for online training, it can be a practical way for individuals with time constraints to acquire a new trade.

Questions to Ask Vocational Schools

Questions to ask Santo Domingo Pueblo NM trade schoolsAs soon as you have picked the trade and type of degree or certificate that you wish to obtain, either on campus or online, you can start to limit your list of schools. As you are probably aware, there are a large number of trade schools in the  Santo Domingo Pueblo NM area and across the United States to pick from. Following are some additional ones that you need to research before enrolling in your school of choice.

Accreditation.  Many Santo Domingo Pueblo NM area trade schools have acquired either a regional or a national accreditation. They can attain Institutional Accreditation, which focuses on the school’s programs as a whole, or Programmatic Accreditation, which relates to a specific program, for example HVAC technology. Make certain that the school is accredited by a U.S. Department of Education recognized accrediting agency, which includes the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology. Along with helping make certain that you obtain a superior education, it can help in securing financial assistance or student loans, which are often not available for non-accredited programs. Also, many states mandate that the  training course be accredited in order to be approved for licensing where applicable.

How Long in Business? One clue to help evaluate the quality of a vocational school near Santo Domingo Pueblo NM is how long it has been in operation. Having said that, even the best of schools had to start from their first day of training, so consider it as one of several qualifiers.

Completion Rates.  Ask the vocational schools you are reviewing what their completion rates are. The completion rate is the percentage of students who enroll in and complete the course. A low completion rate may indicate that students were unhappy with the course and quit. It might also signify that the teachers were not competent to instruct the students. It’s also important that the schools have higher job placement rates. Older and/or more reputable schools may have a more extensive list of graduates, which can produce more contacts for the school to utilize for their apprenticeship and job placement programs. A high job placement rate can not only affirm that the school has a good reputation within the industry, but additionally that it has the network of contacts to assist grads obtain apprenticeships or jobs in the Santo Domingo Pueblo NM area.

Apprenticeship Programs.  A large number of vocational programs are taught along with an apprenticeship or an internship program. Those participating trade and vocational schools will help place you in an apprenticeship program inside their network of companies or labor unions. Check if the schools you are reviewing have referring relationships with Santo Domingo Pueblo NM area professionals in the field. An apprenticeship not only provides a valuable experience by furnishing hands-on training, but it also provides job opportunities and helps to build relationships in the local professional community.

Modern Facilities.  Confirm that the campus facilities and the equipment that you will be trained on are state-of-the-art and what you will be working with on the job. If you are currently in an internship or an apprenticeship, check with the technician you are working with regarding what you should be looking for. Otherwise, ask a local Santo Domingo Pueblo NM contracting company if they can provide some pointers. Additionally bear in mind that unless you are willing to relocate, the school must be within driving distance of your residence. Take note that if you decide to attend an out-of-state school, in addition to relocation costs there can be higher tuition fees compared to in-state residents.

Smaller Classes.   It’s important that you get as much one-on-one training as possible, which can be challenging in bigger classes. Ask if you can monitor a couple of the classes so that you can observe how big they are and experience the interaction between instructors and students. Speak to some of the students and get their feedback concerning class sizes and instruction. Finally, talk with a few of the teachers and learn what their level of experience is in New Mexico and what certifications or degrees they hold.

Flexible Scheduling.  Confirm that the class schedules for the programs you are reviewing are flexible enough to fulfill your needs. If you are only able to go to classes in the evening or on weekends near Santo Domingo Pueblo NM, verify that the schools you are reviewing offer those options. If you can only attend on a part-time basis, make sure that the school you select allows part-time enrollment. Finally, check out what the policy is to make-up classes should you miss any because of work, sickness or family responsibilities.

    Kewa Pueblo, New Mexico

Kewa Pueblo (Eastern Keres [kʰewɑ], Navajo: Tó Hájiiloh), formerly known as Santo Domingo Pueblo, is a census-designated place (CDP) in Sandoval County, New Mexico, United States and a federally recognized tribe of Native American Pueblo people.

The population of the pueblo is composed of Native Americans who speak Keres, an eastern dialect of the Keresan languages. Like several other pueblo peoples, they have a matrilineal kinship system,[2] in which children are considered born into the mother's family and clan, and inheritance and property pass through the maternal line.[citation needed] The Pueblo celebrates an annual feast day on August 4 to honor their patron saint, Saint Dominic. More than 2,000 pueblo people participate in the traditional corn dances held at this time.[citation needed]

In the 17th century, the Spanish conquistadores named the pueblo as Santo Domingo. Its earliest recorded name was Gipuy. According to Pueblo Council members, the local name in their Keres language has always been Kewa. In 2009, the pueblo officially changed its name to Kewa Pueblo, altering its seal, signs and letterhead.[3]According to the Keres Online Dictionary the Keresan-name for the Pueblo was Díiwʾi and for its people therefore Dîiwʾamʾé.[4]
