Online Vocational Schools

Saint Catharine KY student attending online vocational programOnline schools have become more attractive with Saint Catharine KY students and increasingly more accredited programs are being offered. Even though learning online is a very convenient and accessible way to earn a degree or certificate, it may not be the ideal option for every vocation or trade. For instance, training to operate a semi truck is not something that you can do online, nor is learning how to weld. These are skills that need to be learned through practical training and by doing it, not by studying or watching videos. But certain aspects of the training can be appropriate for online classes, such as studying driving and safety guidelines for trucking schools or learning about metallurgy or how to read blueprints for welding schools. A number of programs will blend online instruction with on-campus lab work, such as for HVAC or plumbing schools. So it is essential to ask before enrolling in an online school for any vocation if there is an appropriate amount of practical training allocated to the course of study. One way to help establish est that a trade school program is both suitable for online studying and delivers comprehensive practical training is to confirm that it’s accredited by a nationally recognized accrediting agency (more on accreditation later). For those trades that are suitable for training online, it can be a practical way for individuals with time constraints to learn a new trade.

Things to Ask Vocational School Programs

Questions to ask Saint Catharine KY trade schoolsOnce you have decided on the vocation and type of degree or certificate that you desire to earn, either online or on campus, you can start to limit your selection of schools. As you are certainly aware, there are numerous trade schools in the  Saint Catharine KY area and throughout the USA to select from. That’s why it is imperative to have a checklist of important qualifiers when making school assessments. As formerly stated in our opening paragraph, tuition and location will most likely be the initial two aspects you will take into consideration. Following are several additional ones that you should explore before enrolling in your school of choice.

Accreditation.  Many Saint Catharine KY area trade programs have received either a regional or a national accreditation. They can attain Institutional Accreditation, which involves the school’s programs overall, or Programmatic Accreditation, which relates to an individual program, such as HVAC technology. Make certain that the program is accredited by a U.S. Department of Education recognized accrediting agency, for instance the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology. Along with helping ensure that you acquire an excellent education, it can assist in acquiring financial aid or student loans, which are in many cases unavailable for non-accredited schools. Additionally, a number of states mandate that the  training course be accredited in order to qualify for licensing where applicable.

How Long in Business? One indicator to help determine the quality of a vocational school near Saint Catharine KY is how long it has been in business. A poorly rated or a fly by night school usually will not stay in business very long, so longevity is a big plus. Having said that, even the best of schools had to start from their first day of training, so consider it as one of several qualifiers.

Completion Rates.  Ask the tech schools you are looking at what their completion rates are. The completion rate is the percentage or portion of students who enroll in and finish the course. A lower completion rate may suggest that students were dissatisfied with the course and quit. It might also mean that the instructors were not qualified to train the students. It’s also important that the schools have high job placement rates. Older and/or more reputable schools may have a broader directory of graduates, which can result in more contacts for the school to use for their apprenticeship and job placement programs. A high job placement rate will not only affirm that the school has an excellent reputation within the trade, but additionally that it has the network of contacts to assist grads secure apprenticeships or jobs in the Saint Catharine KY area.

Apprenticeship Programs.  Many technical programs are taught in conjunction with an internship or an apprenticeship program. Those participating vocational and trade programs will help place you in an apprenticeship program inside their network of companies or trade unions. Check if the schools you are considering have working partnerships with Saint Catharine KY area contractors in the field. An apprenticeship not only offers a rewarding experience by furnishing hands-on training, but it also supplies job opportunities and helps to build relationships in the local professional community.

Modern Facilities.  Confirm that the campus facilities and the equipment that you will be trained on are state-of-the-art and what you will be working with on the job. If you are presently in an internship or an apprenticeship, consult with the technician you are working with regarding what you should be expecting. If not, ask a local Saint Catharine KY company if they can give you some tips. Also bear in mind that unless you are able to move, the school needs to be within driving distance of your home. Remember that if you decide to enroll in an out-of-state school, besides the added relocation costs there can be increased tuition fees compared to in-state residents.

Smaller Classes.   It’s desirable that you receive as much personalized instruction as possible, which can be difficult in bigger classes. Ask if you can monitor a few of the classes so that you can observe how large they are and experience the interaction between teachers and students. Speak to several of the students and get their feedback relating to class sizes and instruction. Finally, speak to some of the instructors and find out what their level of experience is in Kentucky and what certifications or degrees they hold.

Flexible Scheduling.  Make sure that the class schedules for the schools you are assessing are flexible enough to meet your needs. If you are only able to go to classes at night or on weekends near Saint Catharine KY, confirm that the programs you are considering offer those choices. If you can only attend part-time, make certain that the school you select allows part-time enrollment. Finally, ask what the policy is to make-up classes should you miss any because of work, illness or family responsibilities.

    St. Catharine College

St. Catharine College was a small Roman Catholic liberal arts college near Springfield, Kentucky. The college was accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and had a peak enrollment of 750 students.[1]

St. Catharine College traced its roots to classes held in a "still house" in the early 1800s.[4] In 1839, the Kentucky Sisters of St. Dominic obtained a charter to grant educational degrees and a campus was built along Bardstown Road, today's U.S. Route 150.

In 1920, the state amended the school's charter to give it the authority to found colleges and grant collegiate degrees.[4] In 1931, the school was re-dedicated as St. Catharine College, a women's academy and junior college.
