Vocational Schools Online

Nazareth PA student attending online vocational programSchools available online have become very popular with Nazareth PA students and a growing number of accredited programs are becoming available. While learning online is a very convenient and accessible way to acquire a certificate or degree, it might not be the ideal option for all trades or vocations. For instance, learning to drive a semi truck is not something that you can do online, nor is learning how to weld. These are skills that must be mastered through practical training and by doing it, not by reading about it or watching videos. But certain components of the training can be suitable for online classes, for example studying safety and driving regulations for truck driving schools or studying metallurgy or how to read blueprints for welding schools. Some programs will blend online instruction with on campus practical training, such as for HVAC or plumbing schools. So it is essential to determine before enrolling in an online program for any trade if there is an appropriate amount of hands-on training devoted to the curriculum. One way to help ensure that a trade school program is both appropriate for online education and delivers in-depth hands-on training is to verify that it’s accredited by a nationally recognized accrediting agency (more on accreditation later). For those trades that are appropriate for online training, it can be a practical way for students with time constraints to learn a new vocation.

Concerns to Ask Trade Schools

Questions to ask Nazareth PA trade schoolsAs soon as you have picked the vocation and type of degree or certificate that you desire to acquire, either online or on campus, you can start to limit your selection of schools. As you are probably aware, there are numerous technical schools in the  Nazareth PA area and throughout the Country to select from. That’s why it is essential to have a checklist of important qualifications when making school evaluations. As previously mentioned in our opening paragraph, location and tuition will probably be the first two aspects you will look at. Following are some additional ones that you will want to explore before enrolling in your school of choice.

Accredited.  Many Nazareth PA area vocational programs have earned either a regional or a national accreditation. They may acquire Institutional Accreditation, which focuses on the school’s programs as a whole, or Programmatic Accreditation, which relates to a specific program, for instance HVAC technology. Confirm that the program is accredited by a U.S. Department of Education recognized accrediting agency, for example the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology. In addition to helping ensure that you obtain a quality education, it may help in securing financial aid or student loans, which are frequently not available for non-accredited programs. Also, many states mandate that the  training course be accredited for it to qualify for licensing where applicable.

How Long in Business? One indicator to help evaluate the quality of a vocational school near Nazareth PA is how long it has been in business. A poorly rated or a fly by night school typically will not stay in business very long, so longevity is a big plus. However, even the top schools had to begin from their opening day of training, so consider it as one of several qualifiers.

Completion Rates.  Ask the trade schools you are reviewing what their completion rates are. The completion rate is the percentage or portion of students who enroll in and finish the program. A lower completion rate could indicate that students were disappointed with the course and dropped out. It could also signify that the instructors were not competent to instruct the students. It’s similarly important that the schools have high job placement rates. Older and/or more reputable schools may have a more extensive list of graduates, which can produce more contacts for the school to use for their apprenticeship and job placement programs. A high job placement rate can not only affirm that the school has an excellent reputation within the field, but additionally that it has the network of contacts to assist graduates acquire apprenticeships or employment in the Nazareth PA area.

Apprenticeship Programs.  A large number of vocational programs are taught in conjunction with an internship or an apprenticeship program. Those participating vocational and technical schools will help place you in an apprenticeship program within their network of companies or labor unions. Ask if the schools you are comparing have referring relationships with Nazareth PA area contractors in the trade. An apprenticeship not only offers a valuable experience by supplying hands-on training, but it also provides job opportunities and helps to establish relationships in the regional professional community.

Modern Facilities.  Make sure that the campus facilities and the tools that you will be trained on are state-of-the-art and what you will be working with in the field. If you are presently in an internship or an apprenticeship, talk to the tech you are working under concerning what you should be expecting. If not, ask a local Nazareth PA company if they can give you some suggestions. Also bear in mind that unless you are willing to relocate, the school needs to be within driving distance of your home. Remember that if you decide to enroll in an out-of-state school, in addition to moving costs there might be higher tuition fees compared to in-state residents.

Smaller Classes.   It’s desirable that you get as much individualized training as possible, which can be challenging in bigger classes. Ask if you can monitor a couple of the classes so that you can observe how large they are and witness first hand the interaction between instructors and students. Speak to some of the students and get their feedback concerning class sizes and instruction. Last, talk with some of the instructors and find out what their level of experience is in Pennsylvania and what degrees or certifications they have earned.

Flexible Scheduling.  Verify that the class schedules for the schools you are evaluating are flexible enough to fulfill your needs. If you are only able to go to classes at night or on weekends near Nazareth PA, verify that the programs you are looking at offer those options. If you can only attend on a part-time basis, make certain that the school you select offers part-time enrollment. Also, find out what the protocol is to make-up classes should you miss any because of work, illness or family issues.

    Nazareth, Pennsylvania

Nazareth is located seven miles northwest of Easton, four miles north of Bethlehem and twelve miles northeast of Allentown. It is located in the center of Northampton County, and is part of Pennsylvania's Lehigh Valley region.

The borough is named for the Biblical town of Nazareth in Israel, where Jesus spent his youth. The names of other places in the Lehigh Valley area of Pennsylvania are similarly inspired, including Bethlehem, Emmaus, Egypt, and Allentown's Jordan Creek.[3]

Nazareth was founded in 1740 by Moravian immigrants from Germany. The property was purchased from George Whitefield after the construction of the Whitefield House. Initially, Nazareth was specifically Moravian by charter. Outside faiths were not allowed to purchase property within Nazareth, a basically all German Protestant community.
