Trade Schools Online

Clearfield PA student attending online vocational programTrade Schools online have become more attractive with Clearfield PA students and more and more accredited programs are being offered. While learning online is a very convenient and accessible way to acquire a degree or certificate, it might not be the ideal option for every vocation or trade. For example, training to operate a tractor trailer is not something that you can do online, nor is training how to weld. These are skills that must be learned through practical training and by doing it, not by reading about it or watching videos. But certain components of the training may be suitable for online education, for instance learning driving and safety guidelines for truck driving schools or learning about metallurgy or how to read blueprints for welder schools. Many programs will blend online education with on campus lab work, for example for HVAC or plumbing schools. So it is essential to find out before choosing an online school for any vocation if there is a suitable amount of hands-on training allocated to the curriculum. One means to help establish est that a vocational school program is both suitable for online learning and provides in-depth practical training is to verify that it’s accredited by a nationally acknowledged accrediting organization (more on accreditation later). For those vocations that are suitable for training online, it can be a practical way for those with time constraints to learn a new profession.

Things to Ask Vocational School Programs

Questions to ask Clearfield PA trade schoolsWhen you have chosen the vocation and type of certificate or degree that you desire to obtain, either on campus or online, you can start to decrease your list of schools. As you are probably aware, there are a large number of vocational schools in the  Clearfield PA area and across the USA to select from. That’s why it is very important to have a checklist of important qualifiers when making school comparisons. As formerly stated in our opening paragraph, tuition and location will undoubtedly be the initial two factors you will take into consideration. Following are some additional ones that you need to explore before enrolling in your school of choice.

Accredited.  Numerous Clearfield PA area trade programs have acquired either a regional or a national accreditation. They can acquire Institutional Accreditation, which involves the school’s programs as a whole, or Programmatic Accreditation, which pertains to an individual program, such as HVAC technology. Make sure that the program is accredited by a U.S. Department of Education acknowledged accrediting organization, for example the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology. In addition to helping make certain that you get an excellent education, it can assist in securing financial aid or student loans, which are frequently unavailable for non-accredited schools. Additionally, some states require that the  training course be accredited for it to qualify for licensing where applicable.

How Long in Operation? One indicator to help measure the quality of a trade school near Clearfield PA is how long it has been in operation. A negatively ranked or a fly by night school typically will not stay in business very long, so longevity is a big plus. Having said that, even the top schools had to start from their first day of training, so consider it as one of several qualifications.

Completion Rates.  Ask the tech schools you are considering what their completion rates are. The completion rate is the percentage of students who enroll in and finish the program. A low completion rate could signify that students were unhappy with the course and quit. It may also signify that the instructors were not competent to instruct the students. It’s also imperative that the schools have higher job placement rates. Older and/or more reputable schools may have a broader list of alumni, which may result in more contacts for the school to use for their apprenticeship and job placement programs. A high job placement rate can not only confirm that the school has a good reputation within the trade, but also that it has the network of contacts to help students acquire apprenticeships or employment in the Clearfield PA area.

Apprenticeship Programs.  Numerous technical programs are taught along with an internship or an apprenticeship program. Those participating technical and vocational schools will help place you in an apprenticeship program inside their network of contractors or trade unions. Ask if the schools you are reviewing have working relationships with Clearfield PA area contractors in the trade. An apprenticeship not only offers a rewarding experience by providing hands-on training, but it also furnishes job opportunities and helps to establish relationships in the regional professional community.

Modern Facilities.  Make sure that the school facilities and the equipment that you will be instructed on are state-of-the-art and what you will be using on the job. If you are presently in an internship or an apprenticeship, consult with the technician you are working with regarding what you should be looking for. If not, ask a local Clearfield PA contractor if they can give you some tips. Additionally keep in mind that unless you are willing to move, the school needs to be within driving distance of your residence. Take note that if you decide to enroll in an out-of-state school, besides the added moving costs there might be increased tuition fees compared to in-state residents.

Smaller Classes.   It’s important that you receive as much personalized instruction as possible, which can be challenging in bigger classes. Ask if you can sit in on a few of the classes so that you can see how large they are and witness first hand the interaction between students and teachers. Talk with some of the students and get their comments regarding class sizes and instruction. Finally, speak with some of the instructors and learn what their level of experience is in Pennsylvania and what certifications or degrees they hold.

Flexible Scheduling.  Make sure that the class schedules for the schools you are reviewing are flexible enough to meet your needs. If you are only able to attend classes in the evening or on weekends near Clearfield PA, check that the programs you are comparing provide those choices. If you can only attend on a part-time basis, make sure that the school you select allows part-time enrollment. Finally, ask what the protocol is to make-up classes should you miss any because of work, illness or family emergencies.

    Clearfield, Pennsylvania

Clearfield is a borough and the county seat[3] of Clearfield County, Pennsylvania, United States. As of the 2010 census the population was 6,215 people[4] making it the second most populous community in Clearfield County behind DuBois. The borough is part of the DuBois, PA Micropolitan Statistical Area, as well as the larger State College-DuBois, PA Combined Statistical Area. The settled area surrounding the borough consists of the nearby census-designated places of Hyde and Plymptonville, which combined with Clearfield have a population of approximately 8,595 people.

In October 2015, a Clearfield/Lawrence Township Consolidation Committee first convened to discuss a potential merger between Lawrence Township and Clearfield [5][6]. However, on August 1, 2017, Lawrence Township supervisors voted 2 to 1 against consolidation with Clearfield [7]. The population of the new municipality would have been approximately 13,800, surpassing DuBois as the most populous community in the county.

There were many trade routes and paths for Native Americans living and passing through Clearfield County up to the 1600s. One major Indian path at the time was the Great Shamokin Path, which started near the Indian village of Shamokin (now Sunbury) on the Susquehanna River and continued west past Lock Haven, to Chinklacamoose,[8] now the borough of Clearfield. Finally the path ended at the village of Kittanning on the Allegheny River, which is now the modern town of the same name.
