Online Vocational Schools

Tatums OK student attending online vocational programSchools available online have become more attractive with Tatums OK students and increasingly more accredited programs are becoming available. Although learning online is a very convenient and accessible way to acquire a degree or certificate, it might not be the best option for all trades or vocations. For example, training to operate a tractor trailer is not something that you can do online, nor is learning how to weld. These are skills that must be mastered through practical training and by doing it, not by studying or watching videos. But certain components of the training can be appropriate for online training, for example learning safety and driving guidelines for truck driving schools or studying metallurgy or how to read blueprints for welding schools. Many programs will combine online instruction with on campus lab work, for example for HVAC or plumbing schools. So it is very important to ask before choosing an online program for any vocation if there is an appropriate amount of hands-on training allocated to the syllabus. One means to help establish est that a trade school program is both suitable for online learning and provides in-depth practical training is to confirm that it’s accredited by a nationally recognized accrediting organization (more on accreditation later). For those vocations that are appropriate for training online, it can be a practical way for students with time constraints to acquire a new trade.

Concerns to Ask Trade Schools

Questions to ask Tatums OK trade schoolsAfter you have picked the vocation and type of degree or certificate that you desire to acquire, either online or on campus, you can begin to narrow down your list of schools. As you are probably aware, there are many vocational schools in the  Tatums OK area and across the USA to choose from. That’s why it is very important to have a list of important qualifications when making school comparisons. As previously mentioned in our opening paragraph, location and tuition will most likely be the first two aspects you will take into consideration. Following are several additional ones that you should investigate before enrolling in your school of choice.

Accredited.  Numerous Tatums OK area technical schools have earned either a regional or a national accreditation. They can earn Institutional Accreditation, which focuses on the school’s programs overall, or Programmatic Accreditation, which pertains to an individual program, such as HVAC technology. Verify that the program is accredited by a U.S. Department of Education approved accrediting agency, for example the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology. In addition to helping guarantee that you obtain a superior education, it may assist in obtaining financial assistance or student loans, which are often not available for non-accredited programs. Also, a number of states require that the  training program be accredited for it to qualify for licensing where applicable.

How Long in Operation? One clue to help determine the quality of a vocational school near Tatums OK is how long it has been in operation. A poorly rated or a fly by night school typically will not be in business very long, so longevity is a big plus. On the other hand, even the top schools had to begin from their opening day of training, so use it as one of multiple qualifications.

Completion Rates.  Ask the vocational schools you are reviewing what their completion rates are. The completion rate is the percentage or portion of students who enroll in and finish the course. A lower completion rate could indicate that students were dissatisfied with the course and quit. It may also signify that the instructors were not qualified to instruct the students. It’s similarly imperative that the schools have higher job placement rates. Older and/or more reputable schools may have a more extensive directory of alumni, which can produce more contacts for the school to employ for their apprenticeship and job placement programs. A high job placement rate can not only affirm that the school has a good reputation within the trade, but additionally that it has the network of contacts to help students acquire apprenticeships or jobs in the Tatums OK area.

Apprenticeship Programs.  Many technical programs are taught together with an apprenticeship or an internship program. Those participating vocational and technical schools will help place you in an apprenticeship program inside their network of contractors or trade unions. Check if the schools you are considering have working partnerships with Tatums OK area specialists in the field. An apprenticeship not only offers a valuable experience by providing practical training, but it also furnishes employment opportunities and helps to establish relationships in the local professional community.

Modern Facilities.  Make certain that the campus facilities and the tools that you will be instructed on are up-to-date and what you will be using in the field. If you are already in an internship or an apprenticeship, consult with the tech you are working with concerning what you should be expecting. Otherwise, ask a local Tatums OK contractor if they can provide some pointers. Also keep in mind that unless you are able to move, the school needs to be within driving distance of your residence. Remember that if you decide to enroll in an out-of-state school, in addition to moving costs there may be increased tuition charges compared to in-state residents.

Smaller Classes.   It’s desirable that you receive as much one-on-one instruction as possible, which can be challenging in larger classes. Ask if you can monitor some of the classes so that you can observe how large they are and experience the interaction between instructors and students. Talk to several of the students and get their feedback relating to class sizes and instruction. Last, speak to some of the instructors and learn what their level of experience is in Oklahoma and what degrees or certifications they have earned.

Flexible Scheduling.  Confirm that the class schedules for the schools you are assessing are flexible enough to meet your needs. If you are only able to go to classes in the evening or on weekends near Tatums OK, confirm that the programs you are considering provide those options. If you can only attend part-time, be sure that the school you select offers part-time enrollment. Also, ask what the protocol is to make-up classes should you miss any due to work, sickness or family responsibilities.

    Tatums, Oklahoma

Tatums is a historic Freedmen's town in Carter County, Oklahoma, United States. The population was 151 at the 2010 census, a decline of 12.2 percent from 172 at the 2000 census.[3] It is part of the Ardmore, Oklahoma Micropolitan Statistical Area.

According to the Encyclopedia of Oklahoma History and Culture, Tatums was founded in Indian Territory in 1895 by Lee and Mary Tatum, though Oklahoma Place Names states that the town was not incorporated until May 9, 1896.[5][6] The town was one of more than fifty all-black towns founded in Oklahoma, and it is one of thirteen still in existence.[5] Lee Tatum was the first postmaster, ran a grocery store, and was a U.S. Marshal.[6][5] Travelers who came through Tatums could stay at the home of Henry Taylor, who owned the largest home in town.[5] Over the next few decades, other businesses were added to the town, including a church, school, hotel, blacksmith shop, a cotton gin and sawmill, and a motor garage.[5] The Bethel Missionary Baptist Church, which was completed in 1919, is on the National Register of Historic Places.[5] In the 1920s, oil wells were drilled around Tatums, and several residents richly profited from them.[5]

A brick school funded by the Rosenwald Fund was completed in 1926.[5] In 1927, Norman Studios filmed a silent movie, Black Gold, in Tatums.[7] Marshal L. B. Tatums played a role in the film.[5] No copy of the film is known to exist, but the script and camera are held by the Autry National Center in California.[5]
