Trade Schools Online

Warfield KY student attending online vocational programSchools available online have become very popular with Warfield KY students and a growing number of accredited programs are being offered. While online learning is a very convenient and accessible way to earn a certificate or degree, it may not be the ideal option for all trades or vocations. For example, training to operate a semi truck is not something that you can do online, nor is learning how to weld. These are skills that must be acquired through practical training and by doing it, not by studying or watching videos. But certain aspects of the training can be suitable for online learning, for example studying driving and safety guidelines for truck driving schools or studying metallurgy or how to read blueprints for welding schools. A number of programs will combine online instruction with on-campus lab work, for example for electrician or welding schools. So it is crucial to ask before choosing an online program for any vocation if there is an appropriate amount of practical training devoted to the syllabus. One way to help ensure that a vocational school program is both suitable for online learning and provides in-depth hands-on training is to check that it’s accredited by a nationally acknowledged accrediting agency (more on accreditation later). For those trades that are suitable for training online, it can be a practical way for students with time constraints to acquire a new vocation.

Completion Rates.  Ask the trade schools you are looking at what their completion rates are. The completion rate is the portion or percentage of students who enroll in and complete the course. A low completion rate could suggest that students were dissatisfied with the program and dropped out. It could also suggest that the teachers were not competent to instruct the students. It’s similarly important that the schools have higher job placement rates. Older and/or more reputable schools may have a more extensive directory of alumni, which may produce more contacts for the school to utilize for their apprenticeship and job placement programs. A high job placement rate will not only confirm that the school has a good reputation within the field, but additionally that it has the network of contacts to assist graduates obtain apprenticeships or jobs in the Warfield KY area.

Those participating trade and vocational schools will help place you in an apprenticeship program within their network of contractors or trade unions. Find out if the schools you are reviewing have working partnerships with Warfield KY area specialists in the field. An apprenticeship not only provides a rewarding experience by providing practical training, but it also supplies job opportunities and helps to establish relationships in the area professional community.

Modern Facilities.  Confirm that the campus facilities and the equipment that you will be instructed on are state-of-the-art and what you will be using on the job. If you are currently in an internship or an apprenticeship, check with the specialist you are working under regarding what you should be looking for. If not, ask a local Warfield KY contracting company if they can provide some suggestions. Additionally bear in mind that unless you are willing to relocate, the school needs to be within commuting distance of your residence. Remember that if you decide to attend an out-of-state school, in addition to relocation costs there might be increased tuition charges compared to in-state residents.

Smaller Classes.   It’s important that you receive as much personalized training as possible, which can be challenging in bigger classes. Ask if you can sit in on some of the classes so that you can observe how large they are and witness first hand the interaction between students and teachers. Speak to several of the students and get their comments concerning class sizes and instruction. Finally, talk to a few of the teachers and find out what their level of experience is in Kentucky and what degrees or certifications they have earned.

Flexible Scheduling.  Verify that the class schedules for the programs you are evaluating are flexible enough to handle your needs. If you are only able to go to classes in the evening or on weekends near Warfield KY, confirm that the programs you are comparing provide those choices. If you can only attend part-time, make certain that the school you select offers part-time enrollment. Additionally, check out what the policy is to make-up classes should you miss any due to work, illness or family issues.
