Online Vocational Schools

Raymond KS student attending online vocational programSchools available online have become more attractive with Raymond KS students and more and more accredited programs are becoming available. Even though learning online is a readily available and practical way to earn a degree or certificate, it may not be the best option for every vocation or trade. For example, learning to drive a tractor trailer is not something that you can accomplish online, nor is learning how to weld. These are skills that need to be acquired through hands on training and by doing it, not by studying or watching videos. But certain components of the training may be appropriate for online education, such as studying safety and driving regulations for truck driving schools or learning about metallurgy or how to read blueprints for welder schools. Many programs will incorporate online instruction with on campus lab work, for example for electrician or welding schools. So it is very important to determine before enrolling in an online school for any vocation if there is an adequate amount of practical training devoted to the course of study. One means to help establish est that a trade school program is both suitable for online education and delivers in-depth practical training is to confirm that it’s accredited by a nationally acknowledged accrediting agency (more on accreditation later). For those vocations that are suitable for online training, it can be a convenient way for students with limited time to acquire a new trade.

Points to Ask Trade Schools

Questions to ask Raymond KS trade schoolsAfter you have selected the trade and type of degree or certificate that you desire to earn, either online or on campus, you can start to decrease your selection of schools. As you are no doubt aware, there are numerous vocational schools in the  Raymond KS area and throughout the United States to select from. That’s why it is essential to have a list of key qualifications when making school comparisons. As earlier mentioned in our opening paragraph, location and tuition will most likely be the first two factors you will look at. Following are some additional ones that you will want to investigate before enrolling in your school of choice.

Accreditation.  Numerous Raymond KS area trade programs have earned either a regional or a national accreditation. They can earn Institutional Accreditation, which involves the school’s programs overall, or Programmatic Accreditation, which relates to an individual program, for instance HVAC technology. Make sure that the program is accredited by a U.S. Department of Education recognized accrediting organization, which includes the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology. In addition to helping ensure that you acquire a superior education, it may assist in acquiring financial aid or student loans, which are often not available for non-accredited programs. Also, many states mandate that the  training course be accredited in order to be approved for licensing where applicable.

How Long in Operation? One indicator to help measure the quality of a trade school near Raymond KS is how long it has been in operation. A poorly rated or a fly by night school normally will not stay in business very long, so longevity is a big plus. Having said that, even the best of schools had to begin from their opening day of training, so use it as one of several qualifiers.

Completion Rates.  Ask the vocational schools you are looking at what their completion rates are. The completion rate is the portion or percentage of students who enroll in and complete the program. A lower completion rate might signify that students were disappointed with the program and quit. It might also signify that the instructors were not qualified to train the students. It’s similarly imperative that the schools have higher job placement rates. Older and/or more reputable schools may have a more extensive list of graduates, which can result in more contacts for the school to employ for their apprenticeship and job placement programs. A high job placement rate can not only affirm that the school has a good reputation within the trade, but also that it has the network of contacts to assist grads secure apprenticeships or jobs in the Raymond KS area.

Apprenticeship Programs.  Many technical programs are taught together with an internship or an apprenticeship program. Those participating trade and technical programs will help place you in an apprenticeship program inside their network of companies or trade unions. Check if the schools you are reviewing have working relationships with Raymond KS area professionals in the trade. An apprenticeship not only offers a rewarding experience by furnishing practical training, but it also provides employment opportunities and helps to build relationships in the local professional community.

Modern Facilities.  Make sure that the school facilities and the equipment that you will be instructed on are state-of-the-art and what you will be working with in the field. If you are currently in an internship or an apprenticeship, talk to the specialist you are working under regarding what you should be looking for. If not, ask a local Raymond KS contractor if they can give you some pointers. Additionally bear in mind that unless you are able to move, the school needs to be within commuting distance of your home. Remember that if you decide to attend an out-of-state school, besides the added moving costs there may be increased tuition fees compared to in-state residents.

Smaller Classes.   It’s important that you receive as much one-on-one instruction as possible, which can be challenging in bigger classes. Ask if you can monitor a couple of the classes so that you can observe how big they are and witness first hand the interaction between instructors and students. Speak to a few of the students and get their opinions regarding class sizes and instruction. Finally, talk with some of the instructors and find out what their level of experience is in Kansas and what certifications or degrees they have earned.

Flexible Scheduling.  Confirm that the class schedules for the schools you are evaluating are flexible enough to handle your needs. If you are only able to attend classes at night or on weekends near Raymond KS, verify that the schools you are comparing provide those choices. If you can only attend on a part-time basis, make certain that the school you select allows part-time enrollment. Finally, ask what the policy is to make-up classes should you miss any due to work, illness or family emergencies.

    Raymond, Kansas

Raymond is a city in Rice County, Kansas, United States. It is named after Emmons Raymond, former Director of the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway.[6][7] As of the 2010 census, the city population was 79.[8]

For millennia, the land now known as Kansas was inhabited by Native Americans. In 1803, most of modern Kansas was secured by the United States as part of the Louisiana Purchase. In 1854, the Kansas Territory was organized, then in 1861 Kansas became the 34th U.S. state. In 1867, Rice County was founded.

Raymond was founded in 1871, making it the oldest town in Rice County.[6] The first post office in Raymond was established in 1872.[9] At one point in its history Raymond was known as a wild "cowtown" and was a stop on the Santa Fe Railroad, but the town has been in decline since the 1950s.
