Online Trade Schools

Markleeville CA student attending online vocational programOnline schools have become more attractive with Markleeville CA students and a growing number of accredited programs are becoming available. While online learning is a very convenient and accessible way to earn a degree or certificate, it might not be the ideal option for every vocation or trade. For instance, learning to operate a semi truck is not something that you can accomplish online, nor is training how to weld. These are skills that have to be learned through practical training and by doing it, not by studying or watching videos. But certain components of the training may be suitable for online learning, for instance learning driving and safety regulations for truck driving schools or studying metallurgy or how to read blueprints for welding schools. A number of programs will combine online education with on-campus lab work, for example for HVAC or plumbing schools. So it is very important to find out before choosing an online school for any trade if there is a suitable amount of practical training devoted to the curriculum. One means to help ensure that a vocational school program is both appropriate for online learning and provides in-depth hands-on training is to confirm that it’s accredited by a nationally acknowledged accrediting agency (more on accreditation later). For those trades that are suitable for training online, it can be a practical way for students with limited time to acquire a new vocation.

What to Ask Trade Schools

Questions to ask Markleeville CA trade schoolsOnce you have selected the vocation and type of certificate or degree that you want to obtain, either online or on campus, you can start to decrease your list of schools. As you are certainly aware, there are a large number of trade schools in the  Markleeville CA area and throughout the Country to choose from. That’s why it is very important to have a list of relevant qualifiers when making school assessments. As previously stated in our opening paragraph, tuition and location will most likely be the initial two factors you will look at. Following are several additional ones that you should explore before enrolling in your school of choice.

Accreditation.  Numerous Markleeville CA area trade schools have received either a regional or a national accreditation. They can receive Institutional Accreditation, which focuses on the school’s programs overall, or Programmatic Accreditation, which relates to an individual program, such as HVAC technology. Verify that the program is accredited by a U.S. Department of Education acknowledged accrediting organization, such as the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology. Along with helping guarantee that you receive a quality education, it can assist in securing financial assistance or student loans, which are in many cases not available for non-accredited programs. Additionally, a number of states require that the  training course be accredited in order to be approved for licensing where applicable.

How Long in Business? One indicator to help evaluate the quality of a vocational school near Markleeville CA is how long it has been in operation. A negatively rated or a fly by night school usually will not stay in business very long, so longevity is a big plus. On the other hand, even the best of schools had to start from their first day of training, so use it as one of several qualifiers.

Completion Rates.  Ask the tech schools you are looking at what their completion rates are. The completion rate is the percentage or portion of students who enroll in and complete the course. A low completion rate could indicate that students were disappointed with the program and quit. It may also indicate that the teachers were not competent to train the students. It’s also essential that the schools have higher job placement rates. Older and/or more reputable schools may have a more extensive directory of alumni, which can result in more contacts for the school to utilize for their apprenticeship and job placement programs. A high job placement rate will not only confirm that the school has an excellent reputation within the field, but additionally that it has the network of contacts to assist grads secure apprenticeships or employment in the Markleeville CA area.

Apprenticeship Programs.  Numerous technical programs are taught along with an internship or an apprenticeship program. Those participating technical and vocational schools will help place you in an apprenticeship program within their network of companies or trade unions. Ask if the schools you are reviewing have referring partnerships with Markleeville CA area companies in the trade. An apprenticeship not only offers a rewarding experience by supplying hands-on training, but it also furnishes job opportunities and helps to build relationships in the local professional community.

Modern Facilities.  Make certain that the campus facilities and the tools that you will be instructed on are state-of-the-art and what you will be working with in the field. If you are already in an internship or an apprenticeship, talk to the tech you are working under concerning what you should be expecting. If not, ask a local Markleeville CA contractor if they can provide some tips. Additionally keep in mind that unless you are willing to relocate, the school must be within driving distance of your home. Remember that if you decide to attend an out-of-state school, in addition to moving costs there may be higher tuition fees compared to in-state residents.

Smaller Classes.   It’s desirable that you get as much one-on-one instruction as possible, which can be challenging in bigger classes. Ask if you can sit in on a couple of the classes so that you can observe how big they are and witness first hand the interaction between instructors and students. Talk with some of the students and get their opinions relating to class sizes and instruction. Finally, speak with a few of the teachers and learn what their level of experience is in California and what degrees or certifications they have earned.

Flexible Scheduling.  Confirm that the class schedules for the programs you are evaluating are flexible enough to meet your needs. If you can only attend classes at night or on weekends near Markleeville CA, verify that the schools you are looking at provide those options. If you can only attend part-time, be sure that the school you select allows part-time enrollment. Additionally, check out what the policy is to make-up classes should you miss any because of work, illness or family issues.

    Markleeville, California

Markleeville (formerly, Markleville)[5] is a census-designated place (CDP) and the county seat of Alpine County, California. The population was 210 at the 2010 census, up from 197 at the 2000 census.

Jacob J. Marklee founded a toll bridge crossing the Carson River in 1861. He aimed to tap into the traffic from the silver mining boom at Silver Mountain City. On June 23, 1862, he recorded a land claim of 160 acres in Douglas County, Nevada. A boundary survey took place, and the property ended up being in California. In 1863, Marklee died after being involved in a gunfight. When the Comstock Lode discovery took place, the town of Markleeville was founded on the Marklee property.[6] Today, the Alpine County Courthouse sits on the former property, which is listed as a California Historical Landmark.[7]

According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 6.5 square miles (17 km2), all land. The region comprising Markleeville is Alpine in appearance, with lush grassy valley areas. There is a hot spring, and a state park with a campground. Excellent hiking trails abound.
