Online Trade Schools

Clearlake CA student attending online vocational programTrade Schools online have become more attractive with Clearlake CA students and more and more accredited programs are becoming available. Even though learning online is a readily available and practical way to earn a degree or certificate, it might not be the ideal option for every vocation or trade. For example, learning to operate a tractor trailer is not something that you can accomplish online, nor is learning how to weld. These are skills that have to be acquired through practical training and by doing it, not by studying or watching videos. But certain elements of the training may be suitable for online learning, for instance learning driving and safety regulations for truck driving schools or studying metallurgy or how to read blueprints for welder schools. Some programs will combine online instruction with on-campus lab work, such as for HVAC or plumbing schools. So it is very important to find out before choosing an online school for any vocation if there is an appropriate amount of hands-on training devoted to the curriculum. One means to help ensure that a vocational school program is both suitable for online studying and provides in-depth hands-on training is to confirm that it’s accredited by a nationally recognized accrediting organization (more on accreditation later). For those vocations that are appropriate for training online, it can be a convenient way for students with time constraints to learn a new trade.

Concerns to Ask Trade School Programs

Questions to ask Clearlake CA trade schoolsWhen you have decided on the vocation and type of certificate or degree that you would like to obtain, either online or on campus, you can start to limit your list of schools. As you are certainly aware, there are a large number of technical schools in the  Clearlake CA area and throughout the United States to select from. That’s why it is imperative to have a list of key qualifications when making school assessments. As formerly mentioned in our opening paragraph, location and tuition will most likely be the first two aspects you will take into consideration. Following are some additional ones that you should research before enrolling in your school of choice.

Accreditation.  A large number of Clearlake CA area trade schools have acquired either a regional or a national accreditation. They may attain Institutional Accreditation, which focuses on the school’s programs as a whole, or Programmatic Accreditation, which pertains to a specific program, such as HVAC technology. Verify that the program is accredited by a U.S. Department of Education acknowledged accrediting agency, such as the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology. Along with helping ensure that you get an excellent education, it can assist in obtaining financial assistance or student loans, which are frequently unavailable for non-accredited programs. Also, many states mandate that the  training program be accredited in order to be approved for licensing where applicable.

How Long in Operation? One indicator to help assess the quality of a vocational school near Clearlake CA is how long it has been in operation. A negatively reviewed or a fly by night school typically will not be in business very long, so longevity is a big plus. Having said that, even the top schools had to begin from their first day of training, so use it as one of multiple qualifications.

Completion Rates.  Ask the tech schools you are looking at what their completion rates are. The completion rate is the percentage of students who enroll in and finish the program. A lower completion rate might indicate that students were disappointed with the course and quit. It could also indicate that the instructors were not competent to instruct the students. It’s also important that the schools have high job placement rates. Older and/or more reputable schools may have a broader list of graduates, which can mean more contacts for the school to use for their apprenticeship and job placement programs. A high job placement rate will not only affirm that the school has a good reputation within the trade, but also that it has the network of contacts to assist students secure apprenticeships or employment in the Clearlake CA area.

Apprenticeship Programs.  Numerous vocational programs are taught in conjunction with an apprenticeship or an internship program. Those participating vocational and technical programs will help place you in an apprenticeship program within their network of businesses or trade unions. Find out if the schools you are reviewing have working partnerships with Clearlake CA area companies in the field. An apprenticeship not only provides a valuable experience by supplying practical training, but it also furnishes job opportunities and helps to build relationships in the local professional community.

Modern Facilities.  Make sure that the campus facilities and the tools that you will be instructed on are state-of-the-art and what you will be working with on the job. If you are currently in an internship or an apprenticeship, consult with the technician you are working with concerning what you should be looking for. Otherwise, ask a local Clearlake CA contracting company if they can provide some pointers. Additionally bear in mind that unless you can move, the school must be within driving distance of your home. Take note that if you decide to enroll in an out-of-state school, besides the added relocation costs there can be higher tuition charges compared to in-state residents.

Smaller Classes.   It’s important that you receive as much one-on-one training as possible, which can be difficult in larger classes. Ask if you can sit in on a couple of the classes so that you can see how big they are and experience the interaction between instructors and students. Talk with a few of the students and get their opinions regarding class sizes and instruction. Finally, speak to a few of the teachers and find out what their level of experience is in California and what certifications or degrees they have earned.

Flexible Scheduling.  Make sure that the class schedules for the schools you are evaluating are flexible enough to fulfill your needs. If you are only able to go to classes in the evening or on weekends near Clearlake CA, verify that the programs you are reviewing offer those options. If you can only attend part-time, make certain that the school you select offers part-time enrollment. Additionally, check out what the protocol is to make-up classes should you miss any due to work, illness or family emergencies.

    Clearlake, California

Clearlake is a city in Lake County, California, United States.[3] Clearlake is 4.5 miles (7.2 km) north-northwest of Lower Lake,[5] at an elevation of 1417 feet (432 m).[3] As of the 2010 census, the city had a total population of 15,250, up from 13,142 in 2000. It takes its name from Clear Lake.

The first inhabitants of Clearlake were the Pomo Indians who gave the name to many of the areas features including Mount Konocti. Beginning in 1821, enslavement and mistreatment by Spanish soldiers and missionaries, Mexican land barons, European settlers, and gold diggers, combined with a lack of natural immunity to European diseases, which resulted in a massive wave of deaths. The result of this was massive amounts of land freed up for the white settlers who arrived during the gold rush.[6]

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 10.6 square miles (27 km2), of which, 10.1 square miles (26 km2) of it is land and 0.5 square miles (1.3 km2) of it is water. The total area is 4.27% water.
